Rod positioning for pedal zero

Post by Andy Henriksen »

Hi, I have a Mullen G2 that came with a zero pedal with the Franklin change. I am interested in instead having P0 raise string 6 a whole step G# to A#. However, currently my B pedal pull rod goes from the lowest bellcrank position to the highest changer hole (this is when upside down, i.e., lower = closer to guitar.) So, as I see it, there's no direct route for a new pull rod from P0 to the raise finger holes. The rods would have to cross.

I thought I should maybe get a reality check before I started moving my B pedal rod around. I'm a likely to reposition to, say, middle and middle and get the same B pedal feel? Or am I bound to mess things up?

Edit: after thinking about this for a moment longer, the current B pedal rod is in the "least movement possible" position, right? So, anything I do to move it is indeed going to change the feel/action.

I don’t have a good answer for you but on my U12 G2 the rods pulling the 5th string for my 0 pedal (Franklin) and my C pedal do indeed cross. Where they do this is around the center of the guitar, far enough away from the changer that it has not caused a problem. I suppose some may speculate it creates a troublesome friction but I can not feel it in the pedals or hear it and it stays in tune. I don’t know another way to get the pulls I want with the desired timing on the pedals without doing this. Give it a try, it will likely work out just fine. :D

Can you put the bellcrank in the 5th or 7th string position and use a nice offset bend in the rod to straighten the path to the changer?

Jim and Doug, I think you are both right. It looks like I can scooch the bellcrank over a bit, and minimize or maybe avoid any rubbing. And it's such a slight angle difference, I don't think I'll need to bend the rod at all.

Edit: I did this and it worked just fine. It was the obvious solution that I wasn't initially considering, and it definitely was the easiest approach. Thanks!

That’s the change I use. 0 + A = 2 chord 7/9 :D
