Until Then on Both Necks

Post by Dale Rottacker »

This is such a great Gospel song ... Jeff & Shari Easter and Allison Krause are a couple who've done it.

A lot of fun to play on both necks.

That was a very pleasant surprise. Love your phrasing and tasty passing chords. Thanks for the Blessing.

Thank you Lee ... Very early in me starting to play Steel, I met a guy (Ray Robinson) who I became good friends with. The first time I met him he was playing in a bar in Auburn WA, called the Rail, in the early to mid 70's. I was too young to be in there, but in there I was sitting in a dark corner with my Dad. After being captivated by his first set I introduced myself and boldly asked if I could sit beside him on stage for his next set, to get a better view, and he was gracious enough to allow it.

Ray was playing a Sho~Bud Permanent or Fingertip with only one working knee lever. Anyhow, his playing was unconscious and while playing a typical "Country" song busted a string on hit E9th neck, and without missing a beat jumped on the back neck and just killed it.

That image has always stuck in my head that, that was what a "complete" steel player looked like. I'll NEVER look like that, but after 45+ years of playing E9th, before venturing much onto C6th, I feel a bit better and a bit more complete at least trying to play a song on both necks.
