Firefox Update Lost My Stuff

Post by Jerry Overstreet »

Got a prompt from Mozilla to update my Firefox browser to 140, I believe....so I did. Subsequently all my preferences, bookmarks etc. disappeard. Now I'm getting up there and my memory is not what it was, so I saved some things in bookmarks.

I've updated several times in the past but never lost my settings and such before.

Anyway, I had to go in there and reset all my preferences such as private browser, adblock, cookies etc. the usual privacy tools.

Is that old version of Firefox still rattling around in there somewhere so I can retrieve my stuff or is it unrecoverable?

I see where you can download an older version, but that would be starting over and I'm not doing that.

Never had that happen to me on multiple devices.

What operating System (hopefully current)?

As an outlying chance, see if there is a 2nd FF install on the device. If so, go to "Help/About Firefox" and see if an update is available. Install from that link.

While I'm thinking "Got a prompt from Mozilla". Exactly what/where/how did you receive this prompt and exactly what did it say? I usually see FF updating on it's own, without intervention.

Win 11 Howard. I got the update message while I was in Mozilla webstie looking for something else, so perhaps I just downloaded a new version without realizing it. It works just fine. I just miss my old stuff.

My experience has always been it self updates also so this might be on me.
But even if I did download a new version, seems like the old one would still be there.

Yes, I will see if I can find the old version per your suggestion. If not, it'll be fine.

edit: I found it all. Thanks for your help Howard.
