As a Windows user my biggest complaint is the author is Apple biased. For example he mentions Avid's ProTools was released in 1991 while Cakewalk was released in 1987.

There were lots of options then. Cakewalk, N-Tracks, Samplitude, et al. Then digital goodies like Akai 4 track, then Alesis HD24, Tascam 2424, ADAT machines galore.
Just an opinion, but exactly all of these sounded great when used with a console.
