I got a notification from Apple Music that an Alfred Apaka album is now available. I’m guessing these tracks were available before, but they sound great. Anyone know who is on lap steel? They sound great.
This is Apple Music Canada, so may have been out in The US already.

That's a repackaging of "Hawaiian Favorites" which is pretty commonly available, from the early 50s. Was one of my first Hawaiian albums actually, so I'm rather fond of it.

Danny Stewart is playing steel. I know some folks have thrown a little shade at his playing here and there (and I will say Alfred did a substantial upgrade later in the 50s when Jules Ah See started backing him) but I'm fond of those songs and his playing nonetheless. I think there's some B11 in there, for example Lovely Hula Girl.
The tracks aren't accurately named at least towards the end (off by a track) so this likely was put together by someone who didn't know what they were doing, alas. And the final two tracks (or at least track names) were not from this album so may have come from something/somewhere else. Guessing "Somewhere in Hawaii" is from Hawaiian Village Nights and "Hiilawe" may be from Hawaii Calls: The Golden Voice of the Islands which is at least recorded to give the impression of a live performance. That should be Jules on Hi'ilawe most likely.

Waikīkī, at night when the shadows are falling
I hear the rolling surf calling
Calling and calling to me
I hear the rolling surf calling
Calling and calling to me

Thanks for the info Nic. Yes it does seem repackaged. Interesting to know that Danny Stewart played steel with Alfred before Jules Ah See.
I just came across your post about this from a few years back:
