Lever re-positioning?

Post by Tony Boadle »

I'm finding the two levers on my new-to-me Hudson six-string PSG are both too far to the right for comfortable use. At least for me anyway.
The current undercarriage set-up means that moving both levers to the left would be difficult.
I'm trying to work out in my head what would happen if I made up horizontal extender plates that bolt to where the lever was and then fit the lever to the end of the extender, say three or four inches along? Hard to explain...a bit like a 'dog-leg'... would it work?
Any other ideas welcome!
PS: Any way I can add pics here?

I'm familiar with the Hudson guitar construction. The issue is that all the mechanics are attached to 2 aluminum rails and then positioned and bolted inside the cabinet as one unit.

I don't see any easy way out of your predicament short of just removing that entire assembly and moving it further left within the body of the guitar which would entail replacing the pull rods with longer ones.

That's what I would do in your shoes. Probably would require some right angle tools here and there.

My first question too.

Most, if not all guitars are made to sit with the centerline of your body around the 15th fret. Mine is at the 17th. Your right leg should go straight though the right knee levers, parallel to the right end plate.

When sitting at the guitar, You should sit far enough to the right that your right leg is 90 degree to the body of the guitar. Between the right knee levers and foot on volume pedal. Left leg should be, At an angle to set left foot on A-B-C pedals.
Getting comfortable sitting at guitar is very important, For long wood shed practices.
Good Luck on your steel guitar journey, Happy Steelin.

Thanks for the replies....I've solved the problem by fitting two extension plates, literally moving the two levers across by a couple of inches. All working well, if I could post pics here I'd show you how simple the solution was.
PS Points noted regarding sitting position!
